Signs going up

The WMBC has starting the process of signing the FR and DH directional trails on Galbraith. There is an entrance sign which indicate it's a mt. bike only trail and it warns riders of the upcoming challenging terrain. There is also an exit sign which tells riders and hikers to not go up these trails because they will likely encounter riders descending at high speeds. Signs were posted at the top of Scorpion, Evolution, Unemployment Line, and Atomic Dog, and at the bottom of Scorpion and Unemployment Line. More will follow soon. Happy trails.

Hey ya'll.
We had 45+ peeps on Sunday's build day. We got all of the risk management
issues knocked off the list on Unemployment Line (new name for the Luge).
Every jump is officially "caseable" and lots of jumps were tweaked to hit
better/safer.
There is still some revegging to do and 2 small sections of the old luge to
close down, but it's entirely rideable top to bottom. The list of thanks is
really too long to mention, but I've got to throw 'em out to Durand and Hawk
who had the original vision and Andrew Fletcher Love and Colin Tobin who
were out there EVERY day for 3 weeks straight during the initial build.
Last, thanks to Jon Syre and the WMBC board who really trusted our judgment,
BUT made sure that rider safety and sustainability be our paramount
concerns. Don't get me wrong..this is a trail that advanced/expert level
riders are going to love due to the "Varsity" moves, but intermediate riders
will have a real opportunity to get comfy in the air without having to hit
Whistler.
A few things:
. There are 40 jumps, too many pumpers to list and 22 berms. It's
going to take a lot of rides to get the trail figured out. So take it easy
on your first few runs and take a look at anything you're not sure about
before givin'r. Some sections will take many passes before you'll be able
to link up the jumps.
. This trail is downhill directional and I will be putting signs up
later this week at the entrance and exit to address this. You wouldn't
push up A Line, so no pushing up from the exit of Unemployment Line.
. If you stop to session a section, you are responsible for staying
out of the way of riders. Don't stand on backsides of transitions or around
blind corners. That includes your dogs (mine too). Pretty obvious, but it
has to be said.
Lars Sternberg took a chest cam video after we finished working on Sunday.
Enjoy!!

Now that the WMBC has a new stewardship agreement in place with Polygon, we've been given the go-ahead to resume trail building activities on Galbraith. We are throwing a trail work party this Sunday that will focus on completing work on Unemployment Line.
There's several major projects that need to be finished in addition to jump shaping and revegging. There's a couple natural spring zones that'll need rock and drainage work, the entrance ladder feature/filter needs to get built, and several jumps will need to get shortened or lengthened.
Meet up at the upper Padden parking area around 9:45 for a 10 am roll out. Bring your bike if it's nice, water, your favorite tool, and appropriate gear. If you can carpool or ride to the lot or trail please do as parking has been packed lately. Hidden Wave Board Shop is our sponsor for this build day and will be providing a light breakfast and something tasty for lunch.
Looking forward to a big turnout. There's a lot of interest in seeing this trail opened up. Come on out and help make it happen.
Cheers, Hawk

The WMBC and Polygon 05 have reached agreement for the continued management of the trail system on Galbraith Mountain. The new stewardship agreement is similar to the previous versions and the WMBC will be in charge of all trail maintenance and construction on Galbraith Mountain.
We are extremely pleased we were able to reach agreement with the new land owners. We are fortunate that we have such an incredible place to recreate. Huge thanks goes out to Polygon 05 who is willing to allow for continued public use of private land.
A few work parties were missed while we were in the negotiation process and we will do our best to make up for lost time. In the meantime please respect all posted rules, regulations and trail closures-yes, this includes Unemployment Line (the new machine built trail). U-line will be our top priority to finish as conclude the build season and we we head into the summer of riding.
Special thanks goes out to our legal council, Mark Lee of Brownlie Evans Wolf & Lee LLP, who was invaluable in the process of reaching an agreement that was in the best interest of all parties involved.
Now its time to get back to digging in the dirt!! Stay tuned for trail work days and details.

The WMBC board and it's legal help feel very confident that the new agreement will product both parties well if any litigation were to come from an incident on the hill-- we cn again start maintaining the trail we all love so much-- cheers
