Look Out Mountain Two Towers

Hey there, From Lake Louise Rd. Gate 9, on advice from a "friend" (some friend) I went up to behind Look Out Mountain to get to the two radio towers on the north end. Getting there is about 2600 feet and it's a bitch for me. But you can look down at Galbraith from the top. I had to take 4 rests on the way up. I'm going up again on Sat.25. I got to ride to gate 9 so I figure I'll make it to Gate 9 by 8 am. Anyone care to join me? For an old guy, it would be a bit of a comfort to see some other bodies struggling up there.

Building Season Kickoff - Oct. 16

Posted by: "bhawk1980" bhawk1980@yahoo.com   bhawk1980

Tue Sep 21, 2010 11:50 am (PDT)

The WMBC FR crew is kicking off the building season on Saturday, Oct. 16th with plans to work on Evolution and Scorpion. Evo needs some repairs, general maintenance, bigger berms, and some jumps reshaped. Scorpion is getting some general maintenance, new berms to increase flow, and a flowy new section of single track as an alternate to the steep chute section.

Fanatik Bike Shop is sponsoring this trail day so you know there will be good coffee and pastries in the morning, hot pizza for lunch, and cold bevies all day long.

Details:
Date: Oct. 16th - Sat.
Time: Meet at 9:45 at the upper Lake Padden parking lot across from Galbraith Ln.
Sponsor: Fanatik Bike Shop
Trails: Evolution & Scorpion
Waiver: All volunteers will be required to sign a liability waiver before participating in any trail crew activities. Those under 18 years old will need to have a parent sign a waiver as well. You can print those off the WMBC website or they'll be some available in the morning of the build day.

For more info about our goals for the build season, come on out to the WMBC's general meeting, Oct. 10th from 4-6 pm at the Fairhaven Park Pavilion.

Cheers, Hawk

Rod, et al,

Ok, lets not get our feathers ruffled over hearsay. It is true that Bike magazine did approach the tourism bureau in regards to a story on bellingham. The tourism bureau is not at all against supporting that kind of coverage and questions over the reasons that they did not take an active role in supporting the bike magazine article should be addressed to the bureau and not theorized here. There are always multiple sides to every story of course, thus it would be best to get the facts before everyone gets disgruntled with the tourism bureau for not supporting Bike magazine.

We actually subscribe to Bike magazine, do tons of trail work on Galbraith, and ride tons around this county...we are a bike oriented family.  The tourism bureau obviously supports biking, and coverage of all whatcom county tourist activities. I have forwarded your email and concerns to my wife who is the marketing director and I'm sure she will be more than happy to communicate with you on the topic in order to alleviate your fears.

Your ever faithful trail steward,
Joshua

Hey Rod,

I honestly don't know, but that doesn't sound right.
My friend works for Whatcom Co. Tourism and was the person that helped put this
particular vid together.

I doubt they'd tell Bike "no thanks" as her
husband is also a builder in town.  Bike's done a bunch of stuff on
Galbraith in the last couple of years though….as Vernon Felton (one of
their primary writers) lives in town.

I heard through the grapevine that Bike
Magazine wanted to do a big spread on Galbraith in an upcoming issue, and the
local Whatcom County Tourism board said, "Ahhh, no thanks."

Anybody confirm that before I talk to
them?  If it's true, are they nuts?  Maybe they think
we're all just a bunch of punks with no money or talents to bring to the
community – if so, we have some serious educating to do.

Stevens Pass Bike Park Update

Posted by: "Eric Brown" ebxtreme@earthlink.net   ebxtreme

Tue Sep 14, 2010 11:00 am (PDT)

Not sure how many folks here have been following this, but this was on the
Stevens Pass FB page today.

"After 5 years of planning, environmental review, and federal permitting
process, we are excited to announce that the Stevens Pass Bike Park has
gained final approval to begin construction. Given the time of the year and
proximity of the coming winter, we will use the coming months to plan final
construction details."

Now, anyone that rode Whistler in the early days knows it was nothing like
it is today. So, don't get too excited just yet..it'll take them a few
seasons to get a bunch of trails in, but this is really good news for the
biking community.

Cheers,

EB
